15 Minutes to Referral Marketing

By now, you’ve probably realized something: Cold outreach is a grind.
Cold calls, cold messages, cold emails… It’s a lot of effort just to get someone to maybe respond 3% of the time, and then drop you the moment a cheaper version of you is available.
This trend does not mean you’re doing it wrong, but because you’re asking for attention from people who have no reason to give it to you and don't know you.
So instead of blowing up your entire strategy, let’s do something smarter.
Let’s reallocate your time. Not a massive overhaul. Not a dramatic shift, just a small adjustment that starts building real momentum the Live Local way.

The 15 Minute Shift
Here’s the plan: take 15 minutes away from your cold marketing activities each day.
That’s it.
You’re not quitting cold calls, you’re not burning your scripts, you’re just…taking a little time back and doing something more productive and making a more long-term decision for your business by building relationships.
What To Do With Those 15 Minutes
This is where most people overcomplicate things.
Don’t...if you know me, I love simple.
Here’s your simple checklist:
Re share a local business post Help them get more visibility without asking for anything in return.
Leave one thoughtful comment Not “great post”…say something real so they actually notice you or something you like about their business from the last time you visited.
Write one positive review If you’ve used their service, say it publicly. That carries weight.
Send one encouraging message A quick “Hey, saw what you’re doing, really impressive” goes a long way.
That’s it, four simple actions, fifteen minutes...IF that.
Why This Works (Even If It Feels Small)
Most entrepreneurs are trying to get attention to make sales; very few are giving it to help others in their community.
When you consistently show up for others:
• Your name starts popping up everywhere
• People begin to recognize you
• You build familiarity without forcing it
When you reach out later, you’re not a stranger, you're their supporter.
That one change alone will outperform most (ALL) cold outreach.
Keep It Gradual
You don’t need to go all in overnight.
Start here:
• Week 1: 15 minutes a day
• Week 2: 30 minutes a day
• Week 3+: Up to an hour as it continues to grow your business.
Meanwhile, you can still do some cold outreach. The people responding to cold calls usually aren’t choosing you because of your branding anyway, so let's work on your branding in public and make cold sales on the back end like business as usual.
But the people watching you show up consistently?
Those are the ones who start to trust you. This is where you go from having a job to building a business that can sustain.
The Missing Piece Most People Forget
At some point, people are going to ask:
“What do you actually do?” This is where strategy matters, know your why and know your business.
For me, that’s simple; I create video commercials with local business owners and now the conversation has purpose and I can add genuine value.
Your Move Today
Don’t overthink this.
Do this before the day ends:
Engage with 3 local businesses
Leave 1 thoughtful comment
Send 1 encouraging message
That’s it, simple, doable, repeatable...and repeat after me: VALUABLE.
And if you stay consistent, you’ll notice something…You won’t have to chase as many opportunities.
They’ll start coming from the people already around you.
