Call to Action, Tough is Simple

This week we talked about motivation. I have found over the years that once we get through February strong(ish), then we are headed to Spring and get re-energized.

And as we finish out our week with our call to action, I am reminded of a podcast episode that I just finished with Becky Amble, a marketer with over 30 years in the business, and we ended up in the exact same place on the topic of burnout and imposter syndrome: Burnout is not usually about working too hard. It is about working without a system.

When I asked her about persistence and imposter syndrome, her answer mirrored mine: have a system of actions in place that supports goals you are genuinely excited about.

Then build the habit of following that system. When you trust your process, burnout loses its grip.

Here is a simple place to start. Create three categories for your day:

A items. These HAVE to get done. No debate.

B items. These should get done if time allows.

C items. These are bonuses when you are cruising along, crushing your day.

Most people burn out because everything feels like an A item, but after all the motivation and strategies this week, here is the real takeaway:

Excitement starts the goal. A system sustains it.

That is how the 20 percent stay on track when the February blues come and go.

If your system feels messy, overwhelming, or unclear, let’s fix that. And have a fun Love Day this weekend, be sure you tell someone you love them...which...you should every weekend, but Hallmark makes money on this particular weekend.
