The Blog:

I teach entrepreneurs to write down their “core values” — things like honesty, transparency, community support, and growth (among others). But the next step is where most get stuck: how do you actually show those values in your content?

Instead of overthinking, flip the perspective and ask yourself: If I saw this post as a follower, would I immediately feel that value come through?

For example, community support could look like sharing a local event or spotlighting another business without expecting something in return. Honesty could be admitting a mistake you made in business and what you learned from it. Growth could be sharing a book you’re reading or a course you’re taking that’s helping you level up. Stay on brand by using the initial reaction strategy.

Still not sure, here are three additional tips to ensure your content aligns with your values:

  1. First, use the Standards test: What are other brands, similar to your values using for content? There will be no shortage of brands to inspire you and help you check that your own content is focused.

  2. Second, use real examples. Don’t just say “I support the community.” Show it with a story, photo, or spotlight. It can be things that have happened to you and your brand or that your clients are experiencing.

  3. Third, stay audience-focused. If honesty is your value, don’t just declare it — share advice or insights that make someone else’s journey easier. Giving away education is a common practice to give before you can receive.

Your values are only words on paper until they show up in your content. This week, take one of your values and make a post that demonstrates it.

On Wednesday, we’ll talk about how to stay consistent so your audience learns to trust those values in you over time.
