Friday CTA: You Can Do Better

Stop Posting More. Use What Already Worked ESPECIALLY as we are working on maintaining local business owner connections!

If this week taught us anything, it’s this, posting isn’t magic, and engagement doesn’t come from hoping the algorithm notices you.

On Monday, we talked about engagement and how posting acts like a business card. On Tuesday, we talked about consistency and why your message needs different formats to reach different people.

Today is about action.

Instead of creating something new, go backwards and show yourself what a better and engaging post looks like in comparison to your old posting style.

Your assignment is simple. Go grab three posts from this summer that got some traction. Not viral. Not perfect. Just posts that got a few comments, saves, replies, or even private messages. Those posts already proved something, the idea landed.

Now here are three ways to repurpose an old post so it actually creates engagement, not just passive scrolling.

1. Reframe it as a conversation starter

Take the core idea of the post and rewrite it as a question or opinion instead of a statement.

Original example: “Consistency matters more than frequency.”

Repurposed version “Most people think posting more creates growth. I think consistency in message matters more than frequency. Agree or disagree?”

Why this works People engage with opinions, not announcements. You’re inviting a response, not applause, and they love to feel heard.

2. Add a behind-the-scenes angle

Tell people why you posted it in the first place or what happened after you posted it.

Original example A tip or lesson post.

Repurposed version “This post surprised me. It barely got public engagement, but it led to three private conversations. That’s when I realized most engagement happens quietly.”

Curiosity creates replies, invite people in that share your values. What is important to you, why is it important, and who shares these values?

3. Turn it into a direct invitation

Use the post as a reason to start one on one engagement.

Original example A short educational post.

Repurposed version “I shared this earlier this year and it’s still relevant. If this connects with where you’re at right now, message me ‘START’ and I’ll share how I’m seeing others use this.”

Why this works You’re giving people a clear next step without pressure. Engagement doesn’t need to be public to be powerful.

Old content is not dead content. It’s an unfinished conversation. Getting in front of the right audience, staying in front of them, and then finding ways for them to engage and get value from your content is the best way to stay relevant and be useful to your community.

Now, let's brush the dust off of some of those posts that you thought would hit but didn't and see if we can take what we learned this week and do better.
